Renaming sheet tab name in order to reorder them easily

Is there a way to rename the sheet tab name of all sheets in an increasing order (for example :- sheet 1, sheet 2, sheet3...) so that I am easily able to reordr them. It gets very difficult to reorder sheets when a new sheet is inserted and this problems gets worse when there are number large number of sheets

2.JPGName of the sheet I want to change automatically in an increasing order

Your sheets do look like they are named in an increasing order by Solid Edge when created.

If different what do they look like currently ?

Under Solid Edge options, View tab, have you checked this option. Is it of any help ?

Else I must say I haven't undertood your requirement correctly.

Do you want to rename the sheets so they display 1 - Sheet1, 2 - Sheet2, 3 - Sheet3,  4 - Sheet4... ?

This can be done using a macro, I am giving it a try now.

Hi @Shiv_Madan

it again is as so often, let me ask the more interesting question:

"What is the goal?"

What do You want to achieve with those many draft sheets and the wish for a order of them.

Will it be a kind of a catalogue, a bigger drawing with multiple pages, etc.

So if there is the need fo a draft with many sheets and they should be in a special orer, so I would use a certain template for it, where those sheets are created already, ready for use, maybe You want to renmae them, showing what's on there.

Another very old function available with Solid Edge from the beginning is the use of QuickSheet templates for such issues.

But again, without exactly knowing what the requests really are, it is hard to give the right answer.

Wolfgang

Yes, it would be interesting to hear the intention of reordering as Wolfgang said.

Meanwhile, here's the app attached.

After extracting the zip, rename the .ex_ file to .exe

Kindly let me know if it worked as required.

Hi @Tushar

first I will say thanks for all Your efforts and work You do for our community
(I have seen that people getting help and tools sometimes don't say Thank You , as it should be) spending You also Your well-earned kudos

But I think, the macro is not fully in the request of @Shiv_Madan

What I have seen in a very fast test is, taht You rename the draft sheets according to there position in the sheet list.

So I have renamed the sheets to 4,3,2,1 assuming to get a sheet order afterwards with 1,2,3,4

But the sheets still keep in their original position but changed the names back to Sheet-1, Sheet-2, etc.

I think this is not as wanted, but of course should be explained by @Shiv_Madan, who originally requested this function.

Again, thanks for Your efforts

regards
Wolfgang

Hi Wolfgang:

You understood the macro correctly.

This is what I have done.

and is based on my understanding of the OP's narration which is:

Name the visually seen first sheet as Sheet1, visually second sheet as Sheet2 and so on.

So again yes, I wait finger crossed to hear from the OP if this was what he meant and is required.

And I agree with you - it is an absolutely thankless job to post on forums and especially writing macros, apps

I take it up more as a hobby out of passion for Solid Edge and it gives me an opportunity to explore more in to Solid Edge. To comment on the blogging part would make this post sensational and controversial so I will refrain from doing so Smiley Wink

Thanks for acknowledging the efforts.

I must say no one can match your energy, speed, experience, depth-of-knowledge and passion for Solid Edge and for the community; you are truly an inspiration !

The thing is that draft sheets are arranged in a assembly drawing as:

1: Sub assembly 1

2:  Sub assembly 1, part1

3: Sub assembly 1, part2

5: Sub assembly 2

6: Sub assembly 2, part1

and so on

So orignally the draft is made in this way

But sometimes new parts are added to the the sub assemblies later on that too in random order.

So it is required to reorder them as explained above.

I hope it is clear now

Let me know if there is still some confusion, I will explain with another example
