I have two parts.
1) shaft (have 2 or 3 family of parts)
2) Cylinder (have 2 or 3 family of parts)
I created family of assembly (named X & Y) using above two parts.
I created another Assembly using above family of assembly (suppose Using X member).
I wants to replace X member with Y member using Excel...
Is it possible ? if yes then how??
before answering allow me the questionn what Your intends are?
What will You change using Excel and what will be Your benefit doing so?
I - and this might be a very personal opinion only - I do not like to have Excel involed, as long as there is no good reason for it.
Especially if You can do it within the "Family" (what means Solid Edge)
So maybe the overall aspect can help to give You the better answers
Besides this, I'm also not a real friend of a real "Family of Assembly".
Alternate position, Yes this is OK, but a real familiy with different assemblies and - this is important - different document numbers and structures of BOM, this very soon will lead to a very bad performance.
At least this is what I have in mind.
But - and this is the good story, there are altenrative approaches and methods to use, which IMHO will lead to a better and easier result.
Thank You @hawcad
Excel driven family of parts/Assembly is useful when you have a large assembly & Assembly have multiple components & each components have multiple family member.
If we can link up all those family of parts/assembly with excel then it saved lot of time.
we can eliminate the process... select the component > replace Component > select required one components....
Hope You understand my query..
I was about to post this same question, then i found someone has already asked it. Is it possible to get excel to replace parts in an assembly? I've seen people modify variable tables for part files with excel but I have never seen someone replace parts in an assembly with excel.
