with the beginning of ST10 and the enhanced BuildInDataManagement, Solid Edge is well informed about the Revision History of any document.
With the new Revision function there also is an possibility to add revision comments to any document which can be accessed as a Custom Property for any reason (BOM, Draft header, info, etc)
I also have seen, that from the explorer You can show additional properties calles "SE Revised From" and "SE Revision Root" giving You the info about what was the previous document and which was the first document in the revision tree.
Good inof to know about.
But I haven't found any property or similar to get this info from within the document or from an according draft file.
So it seeems to me, that this is not a kind of a standard property to use as normal.
Is this as I see it, have I overseen something or do I simply miss a setup or option?
Thanks in advance
@hawcadI think those properties can only be gotten to via the API as I do not believe they are currently exposed through the UI at all.
Those properties are used by the Revise/Revisions commands to display the revision history when they are ran.
Sorry to come back on this old post, but I have some questions about the "SE Revision Root", "SE Revised From", "SE Revision Level" properties too.
I understand that those properties were very important in Insight, as they were the base for Revising.
Now SEDM does everything with the filenames only.
So we recently migrated from Insight to SEDM, and the "SE Revision Root" and "SE Revised From" are now empty!
Why Why Why?
I keep wondering if this is not a waste of information, and whether Siemens might change their mind about them in the near future, as they could be very usefull.
Is there anybody from Siemens reading this, and can guarantee me that losing those properties will never become a problem? Maybe they will be added in SE2020 or later, and I have to wait/redo the migration all over?
@Wetech-Quantum BiDM still uses the Revision Root and Revised From properties but it does not use the SE Doc ID but instead uses the actual filename. The wierd thing is that BiDM does create and maintain the SE Doc ID so not sure why it does not use it for the revision info. Example below using BiDM and Revisions command.
So my guess is that if you want to maintain revision history info to be able to properly use Revisions and future functionality that would need this, the Insight revision data format would need to be converted to BiDM data format and populated.
Ok, but now it fils in the filenames, instead of the unambigious long hexadecimal numbers.
And during the migration, all my files have nothing filled in at those location.
So I think, we lost a lot of information, and I don't understand why Siemens changed from hexadecimal to filenames, as they are now rebuilding software thet worked realy well (Insight), into something that lacks information.
Any Siemens engineers Reading, and willing to lightenup the situation?
