Correct me if i am wrong. ST10 does not have the viewer now but uses a watered down solid edge to view files. I have been told this new viewer will not work with viewing files that are still in insight? is this correct?
so in this case (if it true) I would install "View & Markup" which can be downloaded extra from download server full products.
See post regarding old macros where this also solves a serious of problems.
After installing View & Markup You will have available the old Insight Connetc Viewer and the old free Solid Edge Viewer
Don't know about Insight, but the new viewer is the same Solid Edge ST10 application, not a watered down application. It is rendered a viewer by turning off menus and functions if there is no valid license for anything else (delete the license in the "Preferences" folder and when the License Wizard appears, pick the option "I want to use the Viewer Mode/Free 2D Drafting").
On another note, View & Markup is still delivered with ST10 but is not installed as part of ST10. It is a separate install.
We are currently on ST7 but are testing ST10.
Would using ST10 as viewer only 'upgrade' earlier version files to ST10 ?
Only if you saved. I believe the Draft is all you can save when it is in Viewer/Free2D mode.
OK, You are right, You can save a draft with the 2D license, even when it shows a 3D part.
You will not be able to add any dimensions etc. but You are able to save it and therefore to bring the last saved version up to ST10
So @beachcomber this means You have to be carefull when installing the ST10 with 2D license as viewer.
I was discussing this with a customer last week nad we learned that you can move an delete dimensions on a view derived from a 3D model then save. This was concerning to them.
It looks like you can set the default to open as read only but the user is still able to change that of they wanted.
I was hoping the SEAdmin would allow me to force readonly but I didn't see it.
If anyone knows of a way to lock down SE to behave as a viewer only I would be interested.
