Sheet Metal Weldings

Hi all,

Is there a way to model a weld in asheet metal file (psm) and not as a new weldment?

Hi there,

Not really....I mean you could obviously model the weld material, as a multi body file, but technically not a "weld" in the software's methodology, so doesn't carry through for detailing in draft.

I make tons of sheet metal parts and assemblies. I have never used the "weldment" designation. As far as I can tell, that designation allows the addition of weld call outs and no other advantages.

@12GAGE,

I think you can get a little more than just the callout....you can also get mass properties from them....which in turn, allows a QS to calculate the wire/rods/gas/time, relative to them, assuming there is a lot of weld material to justify it. Unless structural approval from drawings are required, I see it as a wasted effort for smaller welded parts/assemblies.
