Spring tail creation in ST

Creator
Creator

I have created a torsion spring in ST10 mp5. It is in Synchronous Technology and I was trying to add a bend and another straight leg using the Steering wheel.

It can't seem to get a radius created.

I will attach the file in .rar format if someone wants to give me a hand.

Thanks in advance

Hi there @wbrokow1,

Take a look at my quick crack at it, as attached.....if that is what you're trying to do.

Selecting the end face, re-positioning the steering wheel to the bend center, re-orienting the tool plane [Shift + Click on the tool plane] and use "Lift" from the "Move - Connected Faces" ribbon bar option.

Hi @wbrokow1,

In fact, I recall a similar topic, that @Fritz made a neat video <here>, and that you might find useful, in creating the Synchronous spring in the first place....then also using the method I described to add the bends.

Thanks so much that worked great. But it added another question. If you notice in my model of the spring, I made the pitch a little to small. Is there a way to correct the model?

Hi Walter,

No worries.......actually, I think in your case, the best solution would be to start again, sort of like the attached file "TSpring", where I added an axis & profile sketch, then made the helical protrusion + the tail. All a bit rough, but totally editable, in true synchronous fashion, click on the face, and choose what to modify, like selecting the "Helix" show in the image.

Sean,

How'd you get yours to be a cylinder feature. I extruded a feature.

Thanks.

Sean Ok I saw the cylinder feature in the menu. Sometimes I am blind.

Look at the size of these objects when I click on the helix model. How do I make them nomal scale?

Hi Walter,

Sounds like the same thing.....I used the "Cylinder" tool from the drop down in the Solids group.

Walter,

The scale of the glyph's might be a bit of my fault, as I am a metric template user, and my modified file might not be playing nice with the imperial file, even though I started with your original file, in order to keep your units, etc.

......as a newly created file here, comes out looking like the image below. [it could be a "Style" setting, but I've not seen this before]

Sean,

Thanks for your help so far.  I am trying to get used to the steering wheel in ST10 and came across a situation.

How do I put a helical spring in an assembly where the axis of the spring is coaxial with a hole. Basically a spring centered in a hole, using the steering wheel?

Thanks for any help.
