For the SLDASM file to import correctly, there needs to be all of the part files in the same folder on the PC also.
However, I tried opening it in my OLD version of Rhinoceros and was able to open the file, probably due to some element types that are not compatible through this format. I was able to save the file out and then import into Solid Edge as an assembly, and due to your version of SE, I have saved it to a Parasolid [v28] format....as attached.

your statemnt may be correct.
The reason I said It could be SW2000 or below is.. I requested for .SLDASM format of the same file from my vendor.
When I try to open the file, the error is "This file cannot be translated because it was created prior to solidworks 2000. Either save the file in the parasolid format or save in a newer version of solidworks."
I have attached .SLDASM format of the same file.
