Unable to select faces for relationships

I am try to add part and sub assemblies to my main assembly.

When I add a new sub assembly I am unbale to select any faces on it to crate relationships to the main assembly.

When I add a new part I can select faces on that part  but when I can only select faces of any other instances of that part that are already in the main assembly.

Are the parts in the subassembly activated?

No they weren't.

Is there a command that makes everything inactive?

I know I didn't intentionally inactivate everything.  I'm on the trial still learning.

the parts should be activated prior to assembly or use the icon on the ribbon bar during the "Assemble command". You could have it set up to inactivate every so many minutes or inactivate/activate parts in assembly based on the number of parts you have when first opened -- this would be in the "SolidEdge Options".

I think when a sub assembly is placed the inactive/active properties is based on, depends which version you're running, what parts were active when last saved.
