Using Group Policy for MSI installations - creating msi's from exe's

Has anyone tried to deploy either Solid Edge or the Free Viewer through Group Policy?

We use the Free Viewer extensively throughtout our company.

I've written batch programs to install either interactively or silently.

However if we wanted to push out the latest viewer  and it's cooresponding service pack through Group Policy, we're stuck because the latest viewer service pack does not have the msi file extension.

Siemens re-packaged the ST8 Viewer Service Pack by wrapping an EXE around the Viewer MSI.

While this will allow you to run the EXE silently in a batch program, Group Policy requires the msi file extension.

Just wondering if anyone else out there has tried to use Group Policy for software installations of this type.

No, we use Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager to deploy software.  Much more flexible.
