If we purchase Solid Edge, and inside the data management for Solid Edge, there will be SharePoints.
Is there any difference if purchase SP separately compare get from Solid Edge installer?
you can have an hour discussion on it but I will make it short
Solid Edge SP is more or less the Teamcenter concept based on the SharePoint Infrastructure. You have the Item/ItemRevsion thing. To view the content a license is alwasy needed.
Solid Edge Insight is the 100% SharePoint concept. You have a list with the Contentyp "Solid Edge Document". The list can have different views depending on who you are or what your are lookking for. To view the content no extra license is needed.
If you have othe SharePoint Solutions (Apps) eg. CRM this will fit 100%
We have a matrix that highlights some of the key differences between Solid Edge Insight and Solid Edge SP - hopefully this will help answer your question
Also - when we launch Solid Edge ST9 on 16th May we will be talking about some new built-in data management capabilities in Solid Edge so look out for that
Solid Edge SP is around $1k per seat if you are adding it to a Solid Edge Classic seat, a bit more if adding it to Solid Edge Foundation. As you probably know, Solid Edge Insight is included with Solid Edge Classic.
Thanks for the reply.
I will study more deeper on this and will back to you guys later.
Insight Connect is always a part of a Solid Edge Classic installation. So if you have Solid Edge installed Insight Connect is also installed
It can be purchased as a separated product if there are individuals with the need to do some administration work in Insight but they do not have Solid Edge Classic eg. Leader of the engineering team etc.
Here is a little overview about the functions:
- Start the Lifecycle of a part
- Do a revision of documents
- do a review of a document (measure, add remarks, etc)
Just to add to Stefan's contribution - Insight Connect performs a lot of the operations of Solid Edge Insight but in a client that can run independently of the Solid Edge CAD software
Quoting from the Insight brochure:
"Solid Edge extends the power of Insight to users of design data through Insight Connect, the powerful Solid Edge design management client. Included with every copy of Solid Edge and also available as a standalone client, Insight Connect provides powerful design management functionality such as revision management, document lifecycle management and “where-used” searches. Insight Connect also provides powerful design review capabilities for consumers of design data, making it possible for extended team members to view multiple 2D and 3D file types – from Solid Edge and other sources – and interrogate the design using dynamic sectioning and measurement tools. Comprehensive markup capabilities can then be used to add comments."
We are working on including some of these capabilites in the core Solid Edge CAD software - look out for more info on this in the Solid Edge ST9 launch on May 16th
