When an electrical harness is critical

Phenom
Phenom

This is a question for all of those people that utilize the Solid Edge Harness application.

Background:

Your design requirements are very dependent on the top level assembly or sub-assy that will not vibrate or cause rotation to measuring equipment. You need to determine the correct CGs and weights of all components and verify the design before you build.

You have a complex design that consists of welments, sensing equipment, and an electrical harness.

Challenge:

After you have built your harness, and it is positioned within your top level assembly, how do you get Solid Edge to recognize the CG and mass properties at the top level assembly for the harness?

@RyanM, Not sure what you're asking for.

@bshand To my knowledge when you create a harness you cannot get any property values at the assembly level. No properties- no mass analysis without manually assigning values every time. Wondering how people are solving this issue.

Oh, OK. I don't use that tool so wouldn't know.

Hi Ryan,

Solid Edge does support physical properties on wire harnesses, but you have to do the following:

1. Ensure your harness wires have linear density set in the Properties

2. On the harness collector or individual wires, run the Create Physical Conductor command, which creates 'bodies' for the harnesses.

3. Once the physical conductors are in place, the physical properties will update to include harnesses.

@AdityaG Thank you for your input. Yes, that is specific to each wire and segment. What I need is the CGs and weight for the entire harness. And the CG information available to the use so that they don't have to pull a Premium license to check harness and then run a mass analysis of the top level assembly.

In your last image you will notice that Properties is grayed out. That's where the information should be.

@RyanM -  The way to get the physical properties of the harness alone would be to select the physical conductors and run the Physical Properties command. That is how currently you get physical properties for a subset of the model. We have requests to be able to define & track physical properties on subsets of the model and we will consider that in our plans.

Aditya

ps: Running Physical Props on Selected harness physical conductors seems to be exposing a bug that we should address since it is not picking up the right denisty. Works fine with the whole model.
