We are trying to route wires for our boards in an assembly in Solid Edge. The problem we came up with is that we use a few connectors multiple times in the assembly of the boards. This allows us to have the harness wizard limit us to select the correct connector part number but not auto select the connectors. What we would like to do is define the componentID or component name in the assembly this would allow SE to auto connect all of the wires once the connection and component file are imported. We are looking at saving each plug as a unique part number and assigning the component name there but this would inhibit using the Solid Edge Bill of Material for a parts list.
Did you ever find a solution to this problem? We are also trying to use the wire harness wizard to create and define cable assemblies but there is an issue when trying to use the same connector part file more than once. If I insert a connector and have it defined as "P1", and then add a second connector using the same part file, the wire harness automatically assumes this is also "P1". Is there a way to uniquely identify the 2 parts rather than manually create the wire harness?
We made some changes in ST8 where we don't automatically determine which occurrence of the connector matches with the ECAD component list file. Prior it was automatic but did not always assign the right ECAD component with the right occurrence in the assembly. Thus the UI to manually select which matches.
We think we have a solution. I'd like to understand more of your requirements. Feel free to reach out and ask questions or provide input.
