area calcs in SolidEdge

Hi
How accurate should one expect area calcs in
SolidEdge to be? Or volume calcs in the full ver
if anybody here knows that.
Background: We've got a fairly complicated chunk
of equipment that we want to know how much each
part weighs. Many of the parts have complicated
shapes that are a great deal of work to calculate
the cross-section area. The existing spec has been
created by using SolidEdge to draw up the various
blue print and fabrication drawings. Then from these
the area of cross sections has been calculated.
Then the length plus the known density lets us
calculate the weight of the part.
How accurate should we expect this process to be?
Are there any hints for keeping it accurate?

Dan,
You can set the precision of the area under File-Properties. I believe it
defaults to 3 places. There is an Advanced button that lets you access the
volume precision.

Not applicable

The area properties are computed to very high accuracy since the algorithm uses a
direct geometric integration technique. Results should be accurate to at least
10e-5 sq mm. (1/100,000 sq mm). For the most part, the accuracy is much better
than that value, especially for profiles composed of lines and arcs.
Setting the precision as described below only affects the readout. The calculations
are always done to the same high precision.
