duplicate sketch in assembly

Hello All,

Is there anyway to duplicate a sketch in an assembly? I have a complicated sketch in an assembly. I need to make a new copy of the sketch in that assembly for making second option sketch.

Please suggest.

Regards,

Aslam

Hi @aslam

Though I have not done this before, I did notice the Copy icon is disabled when a sketch is selected in the assembly Pathfinder.

So the alternative would be to open the sketch and manually copy it using the Copy command and Paste it in a new sketch.

You can even use Ctrl+A to pick all entities at once.

Hope I understood your question correctly.

Hello @Tushar,

Thank you for your reply.
If I copy sketch in that process, all constraints will be lost. I need to keep all constraints intact.
Otherwise copying will be not fruitful for me.
Moreover the sketch is also constrained to below level sketch.

Hi Aslam,

I found in a quick test that the constraints are copied as well.

But there does not seem to be a way to retain connection to underlying entities when copied, which you may need to re-establish manually again.

Sorry @Tushar, not all constraints missed.
Constrains with reference planes, coordinate systems and/or underlying entities missed. That's why the sketch is not fully constrained after pasting. And it is little harder to keep the copied constraints and again re-establish the other constraints in a complex sketch.

Hoping for an easy and good solution. Thank you.

Hi @aslam

and what's about having a part containing that sketch and placing this part as often as You need it?

This would be a single part with a single sketch but could be accessed as many times as neede at several positions and places.

Thank you @hawcad for your reply.

That idea is very interesting and brilliant! I will check this.

Hi,

There are some ways... Make a block from it and place once again. Or @hawcad has a good idea too.

Or you can use Tear-off sketch command in assy.

Here is a video to my last mention:

Thank you @Imics! The Tear-off sketch command is just great!.

One issue I am getting is, some constraints are not copied in new sketch.
Suppose one line was constrained with coordinate system base center point. That constrain is not copied. So the sketch is no more fully constrained. I have to constraint it again with coordinate system center point.

Is there any way to copy that constraint?
