So are you opening it from the mail program?

Save the attachment to a known folder and then start Solid Edge.

In Solid Edge, press Ctrl+O and then navigate to the folder.

In the File Open dialog, change the file type filter to Parasolid (x_t) and select the saved file.

Does it show a 'Pick Template' dialog, select a 'Assembly' template and click OK.

Does that translate and open the Parasolid in SE ?

First thank you for the detailed answer!

Did it already and after choosing the Assembly template, it  just dosn't show anything. It stays in the SE "home page".

Does it show a marquee message saying 'converting parasolid entities...' or something like that ?

No nothing at all.

I've attached a generic asm file out of Inventor so you can try it on your system.

BDW I have SE ST1 (yes, an antique I know)

Thx

Your problem is possibly that the x_t file is not a version that you can import.

Open an assembly in solid edge, then go to save it as an x_t. Click the Options button and see what is the latest parasolid versions you can export. It will possibly be something like 13 or 14, maybe even lower.

Then ask your Inventor user to export as that version.
