is it possible calculate an area from photography using solid edge

I need to calculate an area  of a weld diluition, so I have a photo of the cross section of the weld is it possible to import this photo in real scale and the usig the  feature of SE dimensions an calculate this areeas

Hi there,.....YES you can, with the exception of scale for photo's. [scanned images can be read in at 1:1]

 

You will need to place the image on a sketch plane [see Sketching tab > Insert - Image], then place a line of the appropriate size to scale it to, and drag the image corner handle to resize as needed [make sure the aspect ratio is locked] and grab anywhere between the handles of the boundry to move the image while calibrating the scale.

Once done, draw an enclosed scketch about your weld perimeter, on the "Inspect" tab > 3D Measure > select "Inquire Element", then select the sketch region [doing this in Synchronous mode by the way] and it'll give a surface area in mm2.

 

 

Also do this in the Draft environment.....in a similar fashion, but "Inspect" tab > "2D Measure" > select "Area", then select the region...
