st9 vs windows 8.1

Experimenter

hi, I'm a drawing teacher and I installed solid edge st9 student edition in my laptop (windows 8.1 64bits)

It works until you make first operation, I can make a sketch but if I try to extrude it or something like that, it shows a error mesage and closes the program.

I tried everything I know and I can't mend it.

are there an update or something to solve it?

I'm using ST9 on windows 8.1 (64bit) here. Just to confirm they work together. Sorry, I can't think of what might be wrong.

Hi there @damareste,

Do you have any "Maintenance Pack[s]" installed?.......these are not distributed to student edition users, but I believe are available to school faculty, for use in that context.

There is likely an update in Windows that creates a direct conflict on your system, so installing the latest MP would be a first port of call to correct it if you had to stay on ST9.....else, I would absolutely recommend upgrading to ST10, to have the newest supported platform, and of course, latest tools available in Sold Edge.

Any futher thoughts on this @uk_dave?

@damareste pretty much what @SeanCresswell said.

If you are an educator with access to the Solid Edge Academic version you should have access to maintenance packs.  I would start with making sure you have installed ST9 MP12.

I have also seen this type of issue occur with lower end unsupported graphics cards.  Try these steps:

  1. Start Solid Edge.
  2. Create  new 3D file.
  3. Select Application Button -> Settings -> Options
  4. Select View
  5. Under Application Display uncheck "Automatic selection"
  6. In the dropdown select "Software driven"
  7. Select OK
  8. Select OK
  9. Exit Solid Edge
  10. Restart Solid Edge
  11. Test your workflow

These steps will configure your Solid Edge to use the low end graphics which may then avoid this crash.

Tried what?  There were two suggestions:

1. Install the latest ST9 maintenance pack

2. Adjust your Solid Edge display settings

Can you get the maintenance pack through your school?

no, sorry

my school doesn´t use SE, I use it to make plans for milling and lathe students.

I rather use this program and I try to talk into the head teacher to use it instead of what we have, and show him how it works
