transition from student version to full version

I've got a good friend that has used solid edge student version for a few years now, the only reason he even uses SE is because of my use of it and my help with him in learning it. Well now he's finally purchased a full version and as we all know can't access his original files.

Besides the export to a .xt file and opening that is there really not any other option?

I completely understand the idea of keeping control of software and not let academic licenses do "production" work, but what about when one does upgrade?

Best thing to come out of this is best option is to learn to edit the parts with synchronous.
