welding in a prt file?

Good morning All,

In ST8 we are able to weld within a part file. it looks like this only works with prt file and not sheet metal, please correct me if i am wrong. I would like to know why would this be better or referred over just welding within a weldment asm file? How would this be used? All opinions are welcomed.

When in sheet metal switch to part and put in the welding ?

I haven't got ST8, so I this is just a guess.

So it would seem you can add weld to a sheet metal part if you go into the prt environment.

Re: welding in a prt file?

There are several reasons for adding the capability of creating weld beads within a part file:

  • Previous to ST8 we created weld beads as assembly features which caused the assembly to be heavy.
  • When a weld bead is defined in part, the Draft environment will recognize them as weld beads and be able to extract the mass properties for them.
  • Full display control of weld beads.
  • Full control of material properties.
  • Gives you the capability to use "Duplicate Component" to put weld beads on similar components quickly.
