Comparing to SW, SE is very complicated to take a section.

is there a way to section to a reference plane, i want to avoid going through loads of steps before hand.

Are you referring to 3D section views, "Dynamic Section" (Clipping) or the actual Section view?  Or are you talking about 2D section views in Draft?

Do you need a temporary view of a section cut or more permanent for documentation?

Section in the model, i go to the section tool under PMI. not Dynamic Section

I just want a section in the model, so i can see what the part looks like when sectioned in model space.

Granted, the PMI section is a few steps long, but you can use it in drawing views etc.

However, if you just want to cut away parts quickly, look into the clipping planes function - it's probably the equivalent function to what you were doing in Works.

I'm not a big fan of section in the model views of PMI, unless I'm wanting to use that on a print.

If I'm just wanting to look inside, I prefer to use view clipping, for a temporary use.

setting up the section in the first place takes a while. i do like the clip tool though. but most of the times i need to use section as i need to trasnfer that to the drawing.

You can also do a section directly in the draft without doing it in the model....
