Did you know that Solid Edge is multi-lingual? It is now easier than ever to change the language of your Solid Edge interface without removing and reinstalling the application. Solid Edge is available in 14 languages, and any of these can be available to you at the click of a mouse button.
When you install Solid Edge, the dialogs you see are displayed in the language of your operating system settings. For example, if your regional settings are Japanese, then you will see the setup dialog in Japanese:
If you take all of the defaults, Solid Edge will be installed with Japanese templates and materials, with the UI configured for Japanese. You can also choose to install English here by selecting the Install English option:
Once you’ve installed Solid Edge, you can change the language of the user interface. The user interface language is indicated by two settings:
Your regional settings can be found on your system on the Region dialog. The easiest way to find these settings on Windows 10 is to type “Region” in the search field and then to select the Region app.
On Windows 7, these are in the Control Panel > Clock, Language, and Region > Regional Settings > Region and Language.
On the Formats tab, set the Format drop list to the language you want displayed in Solid Edge, and click OK.
In addition, you can force Solid Edge to run in English independently of your system locale. On the Helpers tab (Solid Edge Application Button > Settings > Options), simply enable the Use English in the user interface option to override system locale influencing your Solid Edge experience.
NOTE: This only changes the display language of the user interface. Engineering data (such as templates, material tables, holes databases, etc.) remain in the installed language. Also – as you work within Solid Edge, many of your settings are stored and associated with your login so that you don’t have to configure them every time you use the software. Not all of these settings work across locales, so you may find it useful to create an alternate user account when you want to switch to a different language. You can also restore your system to factory defaults if you don’t have concerns about saving these stored settings.
