Do you want to measure the diameter of a shaft? Or want to know how far apart two things are? Solid Edge Portal’s measurement tool does exactly that – It’s your ruler for CAD.
The Measure tool in the Solid Edge Portal can help you to measure the minimum distance between two points, radius of a circular object and length of a line or an arc.
The Measure tool is available for 3D CAD documents and it is located on 3D file viewer toolbar. The image below shows where the Measure command is located on the toolbar.
On the measurement toolbar, select the type of measurement you want to use, and then just click on two points or an edge on the model.
Now, I’ll show you how the two measurement modes work:
Point to Point Measurement allows you to select exact vertex points on your model. Once you select a vertex points, it will be highlighted in yellow. Select any two points and then click or tap to display the measurement. The image below shows an example of this,
Edge Measurements are definite values for Solid models and precise values for facets models. Edge Measurement mode locates and highlights the edges as you hover mouse over them. This mode measures Lines, Circles, Ellipses, and Bspline curves.
Default unit of measurement is inches. You can change the unit to millimeters, centimeters, meters, inches, or feet using the Units command available on the Measure toolbar.
Once you change the unit to any of the above types, your selection remains the new default for all measurements. This is helpful in keeping things consistent, so you don’t have to continually change the unit of measurement every time you open a different file or project.
In summary, Solid Edge Portal delivers a suite of powerful cloud capabilities, providing easy access to professional 3D CAD across different devices, instant configuration of your CAD environment to your personal preferences, and the ability to quickly share your data across your design resources and with suppliers and customers.
