Integrate Solid Edge and Design Manager with Portal so that SE file management/upload/download can be done inside those apps without using the browser. That would make it much more efficient.
@KennyG, Absolutely agree with you. A little suggestion to this an "auto synchronizing" would be very nice, because user don't need to upload edited files manually.
Yes, Ken we are looking at this.
This may be in the form of an addin that can be loaded into in any of the recent SE Desktop releases.
Also would like to incorporate pack and go as part of this.
This is interesting @Imics. One use for the Portal I've thought about was to share models and drawings with our vendors that might need them for CNC purposes. How our company could use it would be to create a Project as the PO number. Then share the project with the vendor that has that PO.
If a change is made to the native file or the neutral file such as a step or dwg, it would be interesting how this "auto-sync" would be accomplished. The engineers save the native files in one mapped drive and the neutral convertd files in another mapped drive. Next, the files are divided into Series folders. Each Series folder is for a specific type and size of machine. I'm not sure how a file in this folder structure could be matched up with Projects by PO in the Portal. Especially when a specific file on our network might be tied to many, many PO's. However, if it could accomplish this, it would be really clever.
Although I think a version history would need to be established. There would also need to be the ability to control whether or not revisions are auto-synced or not. If a PO has been closed, we probably do not want the file being updated any further. It's a really novel idea being able to save a file on our network and it being synchronized automatically with the project shared with a vendor. A notification would then need to be sent to the vendor. But all this sounds like more than what the Portal initially is intended for but perhaps we will see something like this in the future or as an add-on.
