I am experienced in Solid Edge V14 (draft, parts & assemblies), but am having a lot of problems with this student edition.
When I try to use the tutorial to create a part, a message comes up and says the file is locked and I get nowhere. How can I find a way to create a part?
By default Solid Edge is installed in C:\Program Files. In Vista/Win7/Win8 this location is locked down and the user only has "Read" permissions. The files delivered with the tutorials are located inside this area and therefore are "Read Only". Two ways to fix, turn off UAC (and possibly change the Solid Edge install areas security to allow access to everyone) or re-install Solid Edge outside of c:\Program Files (which is what we do).
I may try to reinstall in the C:\ as well, but in the mean time, there is another work-around that I use that works as well. You can do the following: 1. Find your shortcut to launch program. 2. Right-click it and go to properties. 3. Under the "Shortcut" tab, click Advanced. 4. Check the "Run as Administrator" box. 5. Click ok, and then ok. (or alternatively, just right-click, then "Run as Administrator". but then you have to do this everytime) This may help you so you don't have disable UAC or reinstall.
