Alternate ID question

Honored Contributor
Honored Contributor

I'm curious about Alternate ID's, we aren't using them currently, but in our situation, "db_part_no" is assigned by Teamcenter.  We don't use "db_part_no" for anything, instead putting our legacy style smart part number in "db_part_name".  If we used "Alternate ID's", could this use our smart part number?  or is the intent of alternate id's differnt?
