Changing Item Types

I am running Teamcenter 9.1.2. I noticed that under item properties is a drop-down menu that has the item type. However, it is always grayed out.  Is there anyway to change the item type once an item is created?

I don't think so, since there are many differences between the item types.

You can change an item SUBTYPE but not a type

It is possible in a round-about way.  Export the part out to the unmanaged environment.  Change the Item Type attribute there.  Then upload the part to Teamcenter again.

The attribute in the part is not used for importing it.

The best way is to use save as new item type.

The exported part will have an attribute called Teamcenter Item Type.  You can edit that in the part and then upload to Teamcenter.  We have done that before.

This "loop hole" is specific to Solid Edge and Add to Teamcenter. Most files exported from Teamcenter that are not connected to a CAD integration will not have this Teamcenter Item Type attribute. Also, this is a bug, AtT shouldn't change the Item Type of something that is already in TC unless it is adding a new item and you are using MFK.

In general if something was put into Teamcenter under the wrong item type, you need to export all the datasets, delete the datasets and the item from TC (if it isn't referenced/used anywhere). Then you can import the datasets back in and create a new item under the correct item type.
