Details about SP, MP, Minor Release of Teamcenter Versions

Hi,

where can I find details of what kind of changes/updates can a SP/MP/Minor Release contain ?

The Installer for our SOA based application has to be customized to provide compatibility for different sub-versions of Teamcenter11.

So I need to figure out if it should be devided also based on SP/MP or is it sufficient to divide based on minor releases.

The README.PDF and README.CSV files of each release and update contain the information about what has changed or which problems have been solved.

Thanks Stefan for the response. This definitely gives all details, but I was looking for something that explains what an SP, MP and Minor Release means or in other words, why a particular release is called SP/MP/Minor Release.

We need to make a decision regarding what versions should the installer support for ex. if SOA API are not changed (and consequently the include DLLs) between 11.2.1, 11.2.2, 11.2.3, then it would be sufficient to support 11.2.

If I know what an SP or MP in can contain, I can make the decision for any other Teamcenter major release i.e. also TC10 or any future release.

Thanks in advance.

The following structure describes my understanding of the release stages:

  1. Major Release ... major changes to the structure, update the utility
    1. Minor Release ... minor changes, might need an update of the utility
      • SP (old name was MP) ... fixes and small improvements, test utility

  1. Teamcenter 10
    1. Teamcenter 10.1
      • Teamcenter 10.1.1
      • Teamcenter 10.1.2
      • Teamcenter 10.1.3
      • Teamcenter 10.1.4
      • Teamcenter 10.1.5
      • Teamcenter 10.1.6
      • Teamcenter 10.1.7
  2. Teamcenter 11
    1. Teamcenter 11.2
      • Teamcenter 11.2.1
      • Teamcenter 11.2.2
      • Teamcenter 11.2.3
    2. Teamcenter 11.3

From my point of view you must always test your utility, there is no way around this.

Major changes to the utility are only needed for major releases.

Minor changes might be needed for minor releases.

If your utility utilizes the classification structure for MRL, then you will have to update with each SP, since this area is currently heavily worked on.

Thanks Stefan. BTW I had found this blog which also talks about Teamcenter releases and naming conventions

According to the article you linked to, the documentation for Teamcenter 11.3 includes a detailed description of what we can expect in the future related to version numbers, see Teamcenter 11.3 introduces new version convention

Seems that things will get more clear in the future.

Yes I read that. So technically SP/MP/Minor Release are the same.
Thanks again.
