Failover with J2EE Pool Managers NOT Load balancing

Hi, guys.

Trying to config Failover with J2EE Pool Managers and having the following questions and shortcuts.

I have two PoolManagers,PoolA and PoolB. It seems that users are auto assigned to PoolA or PoolB according to Duration(sec). It looks like Load balancing not Failover .Actually i want connect to PoolB only when PoolA is down.

Any suggestions will be appreciated~

Thanks!

I'm not sure I understand your question?

Yes, users are assigned either PoolA or PoolB which simulates load balancing. Also, when PoolA is unavailable then users will only be assigned to PoolB. The key to this is in the setup of the TreeCache.

Where,
PoolA lists PoolB and WebTier
PoolB lists PoolA and WebTier
WebTier lists PoolA and PoolB

Hi,Randy, thank you for your reply.Yes,you are right.I have configured that as you mentioned above .However ,for my customers ,they just want to use PoolA,and PoolB only be used when PoolA is in trouble .So , the point is can we control this ?

Not at the software level. I think you'd have to use hardware to control that kind of function. I haven't heard of configuring Server Manager as a hot spare.

You can Control this with 1:1 connection from PoolA to WAS A and PoolB to WAS B.

But than you need to change client setting if PoolA is donw and PoolB shall be used

Having two WAS implies a hardware load balancer (like F5) and does not provide the hot swap capability.
