Is Whole file cache and segment cache configuration mutually exclusive?

Hi Experts,

In a Teamcenter environment, segment cache is configured for FSC cache. As per a new requirement to load large cache, Switching to whole file cache was suggested. In this context i am looking for few clarifications. Request your help.

1. As per documentation, if we set the below, whole file cache gets enabled. Does that mean segment cache gets disabled?

<property name="FSC_FilesPerWholeFileCacheDir" value="1" overridable="true" />

2. Does it makes sense to set segment cache values(Read/Write) when whole file cache is enabled?

3. Is there any recommendation to have specific values/Limits for segment cache when whole file cache is enabled?

Thanks

Phani

A Segment Cache needs to be tuned using the spreadsheet in FSC_HOME\bin. A Segment Cache is required for streaming files (like JT's). A Whole File Cache (WFC) does not need to be tuned but the size needs to be defined. FSC's are smart and will use whichever mechanism needed to transfer files. Some companies will install multiple FSC's on the same server for different purposes like one for WFC and the second for Segment for performance reasons while other companies will install a single FSC and let FMS sort it out. Your mileage may vary.

Thanks for the inputs Randy.

Will proceed with single FSC having both segment and wholefile cache and check the performance.
