Re: JAVA / 4T RAC crash on check-out

@RandyEllsworth

It is confusing, since the issue look to be related to the windows user and/or the machine.

The problem for us is to find a constant way to reproduce the issue.

We did some more testing today:

It looks like the problem is attached to specific Hardware. the users that use this HP X2 laptop have the issue. But when another windows user logs in to the same laptop; it is possible that he/she doesn't have the issue.

Deleting the windows profile sometimes fixes the issue for that user, but the issue returns within short time.

Also the crash happens after the checkout. When you log back in, the item is checked-out.

Attached a tcserver syslog from a fresh 4T session with checkout crash. Here a custom Item was selected for checkout.

(ignore the failty login attemp in syslog. user mistyped password.)

Yikes! The syslog doesn't have any indication of a Tc crash which is possibly good news that the problem isn't server related. Eliminates a lot of bad things. That means we have to focus on the client and I request more logs, specifically for Bart (bvm):
FCC log (C:\Users\user\FCCCache\fcc*.log)
TCCS log (C:\Users\user\Siemens\logs\tccs\TCCS\process\tccs_Randy_Teamcenter_LAPTOP101.log)
TcRAC log (C:\Users\user\Teamcenter\RAC\20180601091556\Randy_TcRAC_20171009154904.log)

We only need the logs written during the last failure.

If there are any hs_err_pid*.log files either in the RAC working directory or %TEMP% from around the crash then try and include them also.

Yes, i'm also really sure this is a client issue, nothing wrong on the server side. since we have 70 other users without any issue.

I tried to find all log-files but most of them don't exist from the same session (at 16h52) I've send yesterday...

  • fcc*.log ==> did not find a log file from that time stamp, send you the latest log available
  • tccs_BVM_Teamcenter_CPCAD3.log ==> last entry is 4days ago
  • bvm_TcRAC_20180628165102.log ==> correct log
  • hs_err_pid*.log ==> doesn't exist (searched complete c-drive)

Did you try adding the command -XX:-UseCompressedOops at the end of
the Teamcenter.ini file

Is there any event logged in EventViewer after the crash?

Strange that you're not getting FCC/TCCS logs however I am seeing the same WARN messages in TcRAC that we saw in the tcserver syslog:
NLS unused message: noContent.MSG in: com.teamcenter.rac.viewer.messages_locale
NLS missing message: UNKNOWN_NUMBER in: com.teamcenter.rac.viewer.messages_locale
NLS missing message: OBJECTS in: com.teamcenter.rac.viewer.messages_locale
NLS missing message: FOUND_MSG in: com.teamcenter.rac.viewer.messages_locale

The only mention of this on GTAC are related to code issues that are resolved in future releases. One mentions a Tc pref called TC_RefreshWindow_VisiblePref so maybe their is a User pref for BVM? However I don't see that pref in my install (Tc11.4) and its not listed in the documentation despite the GTAC solution stating its in Tc11.3.

Last thing, can you turn on the Communication Monitor?
Window > Show View > Other..., Diagnostic > Communication Monitor
Then check the button for "Show Request/Show Response". Have BVM perform the task again. Then "Save As..." to capture the traffic between Client / Server.

Java runtime errors are the hardest to solve and that's what you are going through now. Some suggestions from Google:
https://www.solvusoft.com/en/errors/runtime-errors/oracle-corporation/java-runtime-environment/0xc00...

It appears this error is within the registry, likely in the user or machine hive (HKCU or HKLM), try this tool to fix it:

Nothing is written to the Communication Monitor and console view.

First I thought this java runtime error is caused because we don't install java, we just copy the java files into a folder and start TEM.bat with the "-jre" argument.

This way Teamcenter is not affected by Java updates. (what are your thoughts about this??)

Even after installing java correctly we still have this issue. We tried several versions of Java, but all with the same result.

I think we are out of options.

This issue is not spreading to other laptops and is looks really and only occurs on specific hardware (HP X2). We probably are going to reinstall windows on these systems.

Update:

The same issue occurs on our new TEST server for TC11.6 upgrade.

We found out that it is a windows bug

c:\windows\system32\msctf.dll is causing the javaw.exe crash

After upgrading windows10 to latest version it is fixed.
