Migration of Teamcenter license files

TC experts,

We are attempting to move our license files into a newer, larger server.  I am looking for any insight/advice in doing so.  Steps we should take before making the migration, or any information at all.

Last time we attempted this was into a virtual server, and everything had failed.  I believe the failure was caused becuase teamcenter could not recognize the correct file path (due to our license files being in a different server with a different IP and Physcial location)

Is this as simple as redirecting the file paths? If so, how to do so.

Any advice would be very much appreciated!  Thanks!

Jake

You will need to generate a CID on the new server and submit a "change server" form to Siemens PLM. A new license file using the CID and including the new server name will be generated. That's the one you can use going forward.

Thanks Randy,

My only question is how do we go about getting TC to recognize the new license file location?  Is it possible to just change the designated file path for the startup files?

Thanks

Teamcenter is a big word. If you are talking about the server then Teamcenter will read the value from TC_DATA\tc_profilevars.bat. Clients may require you to change the value locally. The value is:

SPLM_LICENSE_SERVER=28000@<your_license_server>

Last question for ya Randy,

Can all of this be completed on a virtual server? Or must this be done on a physical server?

Thanks again,

You can fake the mac address on a virtual server which you cannot on a real server so a real server is preferred by Siemens PLM. However, I don't remember that being one of the questions on the "change server" form.

The CID used to generate the license for NX and Teamcenter was introduced to support virtual servers running on VMware or Hyper-V and it required to change to FlexNET 10 at least for the licensing server.

The process of migrating the license from one server to another has not changed for a while now, so it always includes requesting a new license file from Siemens, with the new CID of the new server.
