No Response received in 4Tier connection

Hi guys,

Recently installed TC 11.2 rapidstart corporate server to a customer.

Installed .Net Web Tier.

Tested it right after the installation with http://servername:8080/tc/webclient, logged in as infodba, everything worked fine, thin client worked.

Then went onto 2Tier rich client installation, worked fine.

Installed NX templates, tested NX Integration, worked fine.

Then started the client installation on 4 tier Rich client.

When I tried to log in, I got this error. No response received.

Then opened an Internet Explorer, tried the rich client, I got the same error after the login window.

Went onto the server, tried thin client right on the server, same error.

did not understand what went wrong after it was working.

Tried checking with http://servername:8080/tc/admin, this is the screenshot.

Seems working fine.

Then I checked the 2Tier client on the server, it works.

I uninstalled the TC configuration from the client, re-installed with 2Tier RAC, tried, it works as below.

My 4Tier settings are like this on the server:

Looked at the IIS server, it was working, no errors

What should I check?

Or since 2Tier configuration is working, should I leave it like this?

Re: No Response received in 4Tier connection

2tier bypasses server manager and the web tier, basically it reads TC_DATA and then talks directly to the database. 4tier and the webclient all require server manager and the web tier to make the connection to the database.
From the pictures, it appears that server manager is working fine. And that at least part of the web tier is working (admin page). The use of IP address instead of the server name is unusual and speaks to a DNS problem.
Basically, IIS is not returning a response to the client query. Once the request gets past IIS then you would see "no servers available" indicating a problem with server manager so we're not getting that far. The current problem appears to be with IIS.
Disable the firewall, restart your services, and try the connection again. If it still fails then you know that blocked ports are not the cause and you have to dive into the config of IIS/TcWebTier. There can be all kinds of reasons like a group policy against 192.168 addresses, etc.
Keep us posted on your progress.

Re: No Response received in 4Tier connection

Hi Randy.
I bet I have to dive into IIS since I tried restarng services etc.
After the installation it worked just fine.
I didn't understand the problem.

The reason of the IP usage was to test as if it was because of DNS or not.
I even added the hostname and IP of the server under etc\hosts file to look directly for the server without the need to ask the DNS.

Windows firewall is turned off both on client and the server for incoming/outgoing traffic.

I'm ready now, how do we dive in? Smiley Happy
Should I uninstall and reinstall the web tier?
IIS?
If yes is there anything I should stop as a service that would block me from uninstalling?
Not an expert of IIS here.

Hi Cem,

The first step is to ensure that the App Pool is set to Teamcenter...

Re: No Response received in 4Tier connection

Hi Cem,

The first step is to ensure that the Teamcenter Web App is pointing to the Teamcenter App Pool...

Teamcenter App Pool.png

Restart the Teamcenter Web App after making this change.

Another, sometimes the apps want to run as x86 so configure it...

Select the AppPool  the web tier will run under and right-click -> Set Application Pool Defaults -> Under the General category set “Enable 32-bit Applications” to “True” and restart IIS.

Re: No Response received in 4Tier connection

Hi Randy,

Checked both, I enabled 32 bits, restarted the server.

No change.

Firewall is not active.

Re: No Response received in 4Tier connection

Also, I removed the TC App pool, removed the TC Website, removed the 4 tier installation from TEM, reinstalled it and yet I get the same error..

Re: No Response received in 4Tier connection

I removed the Teamcenter Web Site.

Removed the App Pool.

Installed Weblogic, used it instead.

Now 4 tier is working.

But I do not understand what's wrong with IIS and 4Tier...

Re: No Response received in 4Tier connection

Sounds like you had a conflicting port where something else was using port 80 (default for IIS). WebLogic is 7001 (default port). You can install the web tier again on IIS using an alternate port, like 8080. One possibility is that you may have Apache running on port 80?
