Preventing data to be exported outside of TC

Hi guys,

I have a prospect askimg this:
No one would be allowed to download an NX part, EXCEL file or PDF via "right click - named references - download"
There is a manager, users need to ask for a permission from him and then be able to do this.
Anyone done something like that?
It is to protect their data.

They also don't want the NX users to export any data from NX.
How can we do that?

Anyone on how to restrict users exporting, downloading data from Teamcenter?

While you can restrict users from downloading directly from Named References by removing the Export privledge in reality this request is not possible. Especially given that the user may need to download the file to work on it once "permission" is given by the manager. Maybe something can be done in a workflow that changes the permission and allows the user to work on it however that only covers one "download" use-case. For instance, Documents loaded in Viewer are actually downloaded. Basically you have to trust your users at some point.

So you're telling that basically the "Export" in the ACL prevents them to download files from Named References, am I correct?

Yes. And you can break Teamcenter by using it incorrectly. And it doesn't prevent them from downloading in other areas of Teamcenter. Users are creative so be extra careful.

The only sure fire way to prevent people from somehow taking data is to use a remote terminal (e.g. blade type workstation) for them to log into and work from their PC.  This prevents them, even if they downloaded/exported Teamcenter data on the remote terminal, from getting it to themselves. About the only thing they can do is take screenshots, but if you are worried about that then they shouldn't have access to the data at all.

Actually their manager is just thinking of a permission based idea for exporting.
No one to be allowed to take any data outside, but they might ask permission from their manager and if he grants, than that's ok.
Can a workflow do that?

Genius

That might be even harder to do.

Just about the only sure/safe/secure way to prevent your users from exporting data outside of Teamcenter is to deny them read access to the data ;-)

Sure. You can have WF temporarily change permissions, and WF can also do the exporting.
