Problem opening Solidworks dataset from Teamcenter with Solidworks 2014

Hi guys,

I have a problem on my Teamcenter Rapid Start 10.1.3 implementation.

I’ve installed Solidworks Integration 10.1 to our implementation.

Customer has Solidworks 2014 SP0.

Installed JT translator on the client for that version.

Installed Integration for Solidworks 10.1 to the client.

Exported the attribute mapping file.

Imported that to the corporate server with no errors.

On the Rich client I see the dataset icons for Solidworks Part, Drawing, Assembly and Toolbox.

I create an Item, add a Solidworks Part dataset.

When I try to open that dataset in Solidworks, I get this error.

This is the details pane.

This dataset does not get opened in Solidworks.

But when I launch Solidworks from the batch file of Teamcenter Integration for Solidworks, I click NEW, and can create a new Item which can be saved into Teamcenter with no problems.

Server platform:

  • Windows 2008 Standard R2 x64
  • Teamcenter Rapid Start 10.1.3
  • Solidworks Integration 10.1 server

Client Platform:

  • Windows 8 x64
  • Solidworks 2014 SP4
  • Solidworks Integration 10.1 client

That error message says that there is no actual CAD file attached to the dataset which is correct if I read your step correctly. You only created a SW Dataset (metadata) and did not actually upload a CAD file to it. Using the SWIM interface, you are indeed creating that physical file AND dataset at the same time when checking it into Teamcenter. that is why it works there.

Yes. I just created an empty Item.

What I want to do is, create a Solidworks dataset into it with SWIM.

As you know we can create an empty Item in RAC, and open It in NX with NX Integration, not able to touch the name/revision etc, then create a model and save it.

I want to do the same because, there is a guy creating the BOM of the assembly, and the Solidworks user needs to open that particular file and add 3D data into it.

I only can create Items having Solidworks dataset via SWIM at the moment.

Actually I found something here and will try that tomorrow at customer site.

Using seed parts" in Teamcenter_Integration_for_SolidWorks_10.1.0_UserGuide.pdf
and "Template Map" section in Teamcenter_Integration_for_SolidWorks_10.1.0_AdminGuide.pdf.

HI Cem

Here is the top portion on one of my SWIM client swim.xml files.

You can see highlighted that I have defined a template map for each of the SolidWORKS data sets. Each item_id has its own dataset that includes the blank Solidworks file.

In each of my blank files I make sure that I have all the options set the way I like them too Smiley Happy
