Release Status Access - By Groups

Hello, I am new to TC admin.  I am developing workflows for setting Release Statuses on Item Revisions.   My organization wants to prevent a user from one group/role (Mechanical), setting the status of Item Revisions from another group/role (Electrical).  Is this currently possible?

You can define a workflow template filter. This can be done in workflow designer or since tc 11 you could also define these filters in BMIDE. This last option will be the future and gives more flexibility. Another solution could be to use a handler that will check the active role at the start of a workflow.

You need to check the manuals for more details

There are several handlers to do that as well. you could use from the BNL efficience pack:

RH-check-initiator-role-owninggr
RH-check-write-access

The quickest way is to set the preference

WRKFLW_use_legacy_template_filter = true

then use workflow designer - Edit - template filter.
Here you can decide which groups can start which workflows for which item revision types.

This will like explained above be outdated soon but will solve your issue for now

I have a workflow that gathers the WIP childen. The children could be owned by another group (Eng, Prod or Spares).  To prevent one group issuing another groups revisions I use several EPM-check-action-performer-role handlers to query the user submitting 1st:

I then use EPM-check-object-properties to check the owning group:

So, only Engineering users can issue objects owned by Engineering, Prod owned by Prod, and Spares owned by Spares.

I like this solution, I will give this a try and report back.
