volume allocation

Hello;

I need to allocate volumes for special data types, for example to store documents an a separate volume than cad files.

Where I can find related documents? there is a title "volume allocation rules" in system administration guide about transfering data to another voulume based on types, is there any other direct method?

Thanks.

Volume Allocation Rules is the correct way to segregate files based on dataset "type". For instance, storing JT's separate from CAD files. It is also useful to segregate Projects with special access needs.

This is what I do for certain dataset types such as old (and no longer used) CAD data from legacy systems to put them them on slower compressed disks.

@LarryCarpenter thanks.

this rules must be run as an schedule task, right? is there any other more straight method?

As @RandyEllsworth said, this is the best method and the only one that I'm aware of.  I would run it in the off hours on a schedule to not disrupt performance for the end users during the day, but I don't think it's mandatory to do so.

I almost forgot. There's also a Volume Management application within the Rich Client that can be used to filter and direct files across volumes by attributes or query results. I haven't used it, but it may be worth a look.
