Apples.jpgComparing product data management (PDM) systems can be like comparing apples to apples – how can you tell which one stands out? With so many options on the market today, it can be hard to tell the difference.

Thankfully, Jeff Rowe, an editor for MCAD Café, has taken on the challenge of comparing the leading PDM systems and grading each one. His report card is in. He has judged that Teamcenter Rapid Start, a simple preconfiguration of Teamcenter that delivers basic PDM quickly and cost-effectively, is in a class by itself.

“Teamcenter Rapid Start is a comprehensive PDM system, and then some,” writes Rowe.“… Teamcenter Rapid Start could be construed as more than strictly a PDM system … By itself, Teamcenter Rapid Start is a very capable system, but should your needs grow and dictate, the step up to full-blown Teamcenter would probably be relatively easy.”

Read each review to see how Teamcenter Rapid Start (A-), with Solid Edge, compares to Autodesk Inventor/ Vault Professional (B) and SolidWorks/ SolidWorks Enterprise PDM (B+).

They have concluded the series with a fourth article -- on PTC Creo/Windchill PDM Essentials, where he gives it an A-.

This is all good but the articles are two years old. I was really hoping to see an update to this series and an overall score card so that we could compare apples to apples.

We've seen a lot change in the PDM market in the those two years.

But like apples some are sweet and crunchy and others are tart and crunchy and some are soft and sweet. A lot to like but picking the right one is still hard! Oh and some make some pretty darn good "hard" cider!
