Assign licenses to users

Good morning

 

Please forgive the newbie question

 

I have an ipotetical situation where I have 2 TC Author licenses an 1 TC Requirements Management license.

 

How do I assign Author + RM license to UserA and just Author to UserB ?

(or where do I find documentation on that) 

 

What if UserA no longer need use the RM  module and the license become unused, can I reassign it to User B? or being named will be tied forever to UserA.

 

Is that true for all other licenses or there are exceptions? 

(for example Visualization Levels, Cad Integrations etc) ?

Usually, its first come first serve for obtaining licenses. However, it is possible to specifically assign (reserve) a license for a specific user. This level of assignment can be accomplished with a license options file.

 

Specifying a options file on the VENDOR line in the license file:

VENDOR ugslmd C:\PLM\ C:\PLM\ugslmd.opt PORT=28005

INCREMENT autocad_integration ugslmd 10.0 30-apr-2015 10 SUPERSEDE \

 

Specify specific users in the option file:

# Declare a GROUP of users
GROUP adm rellsworth infodba

# where "adm" is the group name and "rellsworth infodba" are the members

 

# INCLUDE all users in GROUP
#   Alternately, INCLUDE for a specific USER

INCLUDE autocad_integration GROUP adm

# where "autocad_integration" is the feature name (INCREMENT) in the license file.

So is it safe to say that Author and Consumer licenses are Named (i.e. Assigned to Users) while other modules (ReqMgmt, Content Mgmt etc ) are Floating licenses and served on a first come first served basis ?

I think you might be confused on what "Named User" means. It means that a user must have a name, unlike a generic account that is not tied to a specific user. If you look at your license file, you will not see user names listed. I hope that helps.

"Named user" licenses are the contrary to "concurrent user" licenses.

 

Named user license means each user you activate in Teamcenter must have a license available, if there is no license left, you can't create any additional user, without deactivating one first.

 

On the other hand concurrent user licenses are only limiting the amount of users using Teamcenter at the same time, but this license scheme is no longer used.
