What is the Teamcenter Version, you are using ? On TC 10.1.3; It appears as "filter text" instead of "Search Text", Which is precisely the functionality.
Unfortunately, It is Case Sensitive !!

It would have been nice if there had been a preference or some kind of setting that would have made the search not Case sensitive..
Found an option to enable or disable the case sensitivity for searching. Unfortunately not for searching the items locally.

You might as well get used to case-sensitive searching. The java version problem with Quest Agent while searching help (qagent.jar) in Tc, TcVis and NX that requires special patching appears to be resolved by replacing it with Apache Solr (as seen with NX10 Help). It's also the engine behind Active Workspace. I expect Tc11.2 will leverage Solr. Get to know the future http://lucene.apache.org/solr/features.html
