Teamcenter Audit Reports for File (dataset) download

We have a new requirement to be able to report and/or notify when a user views and/or downloads a dataset (file).

It should not matter if the file download or file view was carried out via RAC or AWC.  We are using TC 10.1.5, AWC 3.1

I saw a similar post from 2015 however there were no replies.

This requirements exists because we are storing asset-sensitive files (data), and part of our obligation to customers is that we KNOW who has accessed what information and when.

We could not find how to do this using the TC GUI - has anybody done this before?

You need to look into Digital Rights Management (DRM). Its not cheap or easy.

Hi Randy,

Thanks for that response.  I'll bring this up in our next meeting.

Are there any other possible solutions?

I am thinking whether a record is kept of WHEN (date/time) and who accessed a record, could we either Query or Report on it?

Thanks again,

Re: Teamcenter Audit Reports for File (dataset) download

Hello,

There are few alternatives but will not go all the way as DRM (as mentioned by @RandyEllsworth).

[1] Summary tab --> General Audit logs (atleast in TC 11.x) displays the date accessed information, accessed by information for the datasets.

[2] If it suits, you could look into the option of using subscription manager (enabled through preference) for datasets (object specific or object type specific subscription).

There is no way to accomplish this in Teamcenter. Viewing a file actually loads the file locally in the Viewer so it is both downloaded and viewed. Only DRM is capable of recording these events. Teamcenter doesn't keep track since only "authorized" users can see the object to begin with. If your requirement is truly who viewed and who downloaded then your only choice is DRM (see NextLabs).
