Uninstalled and reinstalled Acrobat Reader: "unable to open dataset. no compatible tool" ?

Genius

Hello

I uninstalled and reinstalled Acrobat Reader: (and restarted computer)

  • Now Teamcenter (11.4(20171201.00)) gives this error when trying to open a .PDF file.

"Unable to open dataset: No compatible tool is found."

  • I have tried to fix it by installing different versions of Reader: the latest DC and also older 9.1 and 9.0 but same error comes up.

The error is still there:

Outside TC11: Windows 10 opens the PDFs correctly and Acrobat Reader-software is set as a default .PDF opener inside Windows.

But when trying to open PDF-datasets inside TC11: (The same error is there: "No Compatible Tool is Found".)

Is there a easy check box option to choose and set a certain PDF Reader as a default selection inside TC11 ?

- How does the Teamcenter 11 choose and autofind the needed PDF reader ?

Where is "the science" of how TC11 finds the compatible PDF opener ?

The logic for what is shown in the Viewer is in defaultViewer.VIEWERCONFIG. The logic for what is launched when double-click or Open is a mixture of BMIDE (example above) or by file associations in the OS (default application).

Hello

I tried to modify regedit.exe "https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/AdminGuide/pdfviewer.html".

By adding= AcroExch.Document.2017.

I'll see if Windows Restore function works on this Windows 10.

  • This all happened 2 days ago when I was installing a .PDF modifier software which is now uninstalled.
  • It probably mixed up the registry "regedit.exe".

How should a working "Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.pdf" look like ?

Looks like installing and unistalling PDF-XChange Editor 7.0 caused this error to happen.

https://www.tracker-software.com/product/pdf-xchange-editor/download?fileid=609

I installed this again and now TC11 opens files in PDF-XChange Editor 7.0.

but when I uninstall it and install Acrobat Reader DC it will not open in TC11.

PDF-XChange Editor 7.0 messed up the Windows 10 .PDF-registry. ( and will not fix even when uninstalled. )
