Here it is... We are multiple users that are working on parts and assembly.. so trought teamcenter, how do we make sure that we are actually working on the right parts and the right components... with last revisions... OR how to be notified if someones is in fact modifying a part while we are working on an assembly with this same part.
not an easy question ! maybe also not easy to answer.
To prevent modification to parts by another user:
OOTB users belonging to a group can modify parts owned by members of the same group. You can configure an ACL that will block modification to part owned by another user even if from same group.
Or, if there are some particular parts that you dont want other users to modify, manually check-out those parts either from TC or NX, this will set Check-out lock and other users wont be able to modify the part.
To Always work on latest revision:
If it's an assembly, you can set your customer default to a revision rule that gives precedence to Working revisions over Released. Say like 'Working; Any Status' revision rule. This will always load assembly with working revisions of component and if there is a component which has all the released revisions latest released revision will be loaded.
If it's part that you are trying to open then, in Open dialog select the item (not the item revision) for the part that you want to open, with above revision rule in place it will open the latest working revision.
thanks for your reply... is there also a way to know if someone is trying to modify a part/component while you are working on the actual assembly...
Sometimes we are reviewing an assembly and someone in another location is trying to modify a part... is there a way to be notified either at the assembly level or at the part level that we are both working on something that have relations...
If you have Subscription Manager feature installed. You can RMB on the Item revision for which you want to receive notification email and select 'Subscribe' option. You can configure the event type for notification and frequency. In your case it might be Modify and Immediately respectively. See the image below:
Would that be possible to have it automaticaly checked out when you open either a part or an assembly.... without doing it manually..
because basicaly what we want to be able to acheive is... preventing someone from creating a part revision while someone else is actually working on an assembly that have this part in it,,, sometimes we have someone reviewing an assembly with ex: partA rev 01.... and while we are working on this assembly... this person now create a revision of partA rev02.... there is no way to prevent this action at this time... either in NX or TC ?
Most CAD solutions allow a local check-out, specially my beloved Solid Edge, to prevent changes in pieces that are part of an assembly in the PLM (Teamcenter) already. Living with concurrent changes when working during design may be possible, but you definitely do not want changes being made on pieces that have been taken to production or released to the field, you don't, as the field is full of big bad wolfes and it is not a good idea to walk around wearing that red hoodie.
Check-In/Check-Out, baselines, zone locks, states and some other approaches should be taken in mind. Have a look at Teamcenter's Fourth Generation Design solutions for colaborative work.
